Women's Tennis Names Sophie Williams to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll


GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida’s Sophie Williams was named to the SEC First Year Academic Honor Roll as the Southeastern Conference announced Thursday. Williams receives the recognition after her freshman year and is currently pursing the exploring social and behavior sciences.

Today’s announcement sets Florida’s record at 402 for total of student-athletes named to a 2022-23 SEC Academic Honor Roll to 402. The previous record of 378 was set in 2020-21 and equaled last season. Florida placed 322 on SEC Academic Honor Rolls (113 on fall list; 72 winter, 137 on spring) and 80 on the First-Year Honor Roll.

To be recognized for the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must meet the following criteria: 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letter-winner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.
