Women’s Tennis Hosts No. 12 Ohio State on Wednesday

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women’s tennis team continues Big Ten play at home on Wednesday, April 3 against No. 12 Ohio State at 3 p.m. The Nittany Lions enter the match on having won three-straight Big Ten matches, including a sweep over No. 73 Rutgers and No. 49 Maryland last weekend.

Sofiya Chekhlystova won both matches at No. 1 this past weekend to push her win streak to three-straight matches. She has a team-high seven singles wins this Spring, all at No. 1. Karly Friedland also collected two singles wins, playing at No. 5, and owns four victories this Spring.

After a 7-6 (6) win at No. 2 against Maryland, doubles pair Olivia Dorner and Karly Friedland are ranked No. 73 in this week’s ITA Poll.

The Nittany Lions won two matches this past weekend against ranked opponents, defeating No. 73 Rutgers, 4-3, on Friday and No. 49 Maryland, 5-2, on Sunday.
 
Sofiya Chekhlystova collected two singles wins, including a ranked win over No. 85 Selma Cadar of Maryland.
 
Karly Friedland also grabbed two singles wins at the No. 5 singles position this weekend against Minchae Kim of Rutgers, 6-0, 6-1, and Maryland’s Diya Challa, 6-2, 3-6, 10-5. 
 
Olivia Dorner clinched the win against Rutgers, with a victory at No. 5, and Alina Lebedeva clinched the match against Maryland, with a win at No. 6.
 

OBSERVING OHIO STATE
 
The No. 12 Ohio State women’s tennis team is 12-6 on the season and 5-1 in Big Ten play. The Buckeyes took on both Maryland and Rutgers this weekend as well. The team defeated Maryland, 6-1, and swept the match against Rutgers, 4-0.
 
Ohio State has three ranked singles in Irina Cantos Siemers, (No. 15) Luciana Perry (No. 41) and Sydni Ratliff (No. 113). 
 
Perry, Canto Siemers and Ratliff are all a part of ranked doubles pairings. Perry and Irina Cantos Siemers are the No. 28 pair. 
 
Perry is a part of two other doubles pairs. When paired with Ratliff, they are No. 27, and when paired with Audrey Spencer, they are No. 63.
 
Cantos Siemers is ranked with Teah Chavez at No. 77.
