History – Arizona dropped its first match ever against Illinois this spring at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic where the teams were battling for third. Despite losing the doubles point, the Wildcats climbed back to win three singles matches in straight sets before Illinois clinched the victory. The Fighting Illini travel to Tucson for the first time since 2002. The ‘Cats have yet to lose a contest against the NM State Aggies and swept them 7-0 during their last match in Las Cruces, N.M. Arizona aims to continue their perfect streak against NM State and find revenge against Illinois tomorrow in the doubleheader matchups.
ITA Ranks – Arizona finds itself in the ITA rankings for the second time this season at #60 (prev. #43) after suffering their first Pac-12 lost against Oregon on Friday, March 3. #28 Illinois has one ranked singles player, #100 Ashley Yeah, and one ranked doubles pair, #30 Katherine Duong and Megan Heuser. The Aggies have yet to receive a team, individual or doubles national ranking this spring.
Up Next – After two weeks at home, the Wildcats get back on the road to continue conference play. In the PNW, they face #71 Washington State on Friday, March 17 at 1:30 p.m. MT in Pullman, and #25 Washington on Sunday, March 19 at 11 a.m. MT in Seattle.
