SALT LAKE CITY – University of Utah women’s tennis head coach Ric Mortera has resigned from his position to pursue other opportunities, effective immediately. Mortera has led the Utes’ women’s tennis program since 2019.
“I would like to thank the University of Utah and Mark Harlan for the opportunity to coach the Utah women’s tennis program for the past five years,” Mortera said. “After a lot of reflection, I believe the time has come for me to pursue other opportunities in my life outside of tennis. To the student-athletes I was fortunate enough to coach, thank you! I am proud of all we accomplished together, milestones we crossed, and the experiences we shared. You have made me a better person and I am forever grateful. I will always be a fan and am excited to see what the next era of Utah women’s tennis will bring.”
In his five seasons as head coach at Utah, Mortera compiled an overall record of 57-51 in dual matches, including a 10-32 record in Pac-12 Conference matches. He earned Wilson/ITA Mountain Region Coach of the Year honors in 2022. The Utes finished the 2023-24 season with a 12-10 overall record, including a 3-7 mark in the Pac-12.
A national search will begin immediately to identify a new head coach for Utah’s women’s tennis program.
