Women’s Tennis Fell to No.4 Georgia, 4-1 in the Final Match

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women’s tennis fell 4-1 at home against Georgia on Sunday. Lillian Gabrielsen was a key component on Senior Day.

Ole Miss (9-12, 3-10 SEC) fought to clench the doubles point despite the fall on court two. No. 3 doubles Emma Kette and Ludmila Kareisova evened up doubles with a win of 6-3. Tensions were high as it all fell on to No. 1 doubles. Gabrielson and Kelsey Mize’s 7-5 victory on court one gave the Rebels the early lead of 1-0.

Ultimately, the Rebels’ momentum fell during singles, Georgia (19-4, 12-1 SEC) came out with four straight wins. Anelle Leclercq-Ficher made it a close call at the start but fell 7-6(5) in the first set.

Kareisova and Gabrielsen were up against two top five ranked singles players in the nation. Despite dropping the first set, both battled back with wins in the second. Kareisova facing No. 3 Lea Ma, won her second set 6-4. Facing No. 5, the senior Gabrielsen also forced a third set after her win of 6-3 in set two. However, the two matches were left unfinished as Georgia secured the victory.

The Rebels will advance to the SEC Championship, playing Missouri. The match will begin on Wednesday, April 19, in Fayetteville at 12 p.m. CT.
