Women’s Tennis Falls To Arkansas In SEC Championship


GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 64th-ranked and 13th-seeded Mississippi State women’s tennis squad fell 4-1 to the 30th-ranked and fifth-seeded Arkansas on Thursday in the second round of the 2022 SEC Championship at Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex. 
 
Arkansas earned an early 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point. On Court 2, Razorback’s Laura Rijkers and Lenka Stara downed Emmanouela Antonaki and Marta Falceto 6-1 and State’s Chloé Cirotte and Alexandra Mikhailuk fell to Indianna Spink and Kelly Keller 6-2. 
 
Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine were well on their way to taking down the 45th-ranked tandem of Tatum Rice and Morgan Cross, but the match went unfinished as MSU had the lead at 5-2. 
 
In singles, No. 76 Antonaki took down the 68th-ranked Razorback Tatum Rice in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Antonaki has now won five consecutive SEC matches and is still ranked third all-time in career singles wins with 79. 
 
Razorback Kelly Keller took the match is straight sets against Adaloglou 6-3, 6-4 and Racine dropped to Spink 6-0, 6-3. Cirotte lost to Lenka Stara in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. 
 
All remaining matches were then suspended. Falceto secured the first set 7-6(1) and was up in the second set 3-2. Razorback Cross took the first set 6-3 against Mikhailuk and was up for 4-3 in the second set. 
 
The Bulldogs conclude their season 12-15 overall and 2-11 in conference play.
