Women’s Tennis Fall Short in 4-3 Loss to Baylor

WACO, Texas – Ole Miss women’s tennis dropped their first match of the season to Baylor, 4-3. The Rebels grabbed the early lead then lost four singles matches.
 
Ole Miss (3-1, 0-0 SEC) got off to a hot start winning the doubles point. Ludmila Kareisova and Anaelle Leclercq-Ficher continue to be an unstoppable force at No. 1 doubles. The duo became 4-0 in dual doubles with a 6-2 victory. The Rebels then sealed the first point of the match when Lillian Gabrielsen and Kelsey Mize won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
 
In singles action, the bottom of the lineup shined the brightest. Emma Kette was the first t0 finish with another dominant performance at No. 6 singles. The freshman won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, to extend her dual win streak to three. Baylor (6-1, 0-0 Big 12) dug at the Ole Miss lead with a win at the fourth position. The Rebels got it right back when Reka Zadori defeated her opponent, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 5 singles.
 
Down 3-1, the Bears fought back winning the next three singles matches to edge Ole Miss. When the match was tied 3-3, Gabrielsen battled in a three-set loss. The senior lost the first set in a 7-6 tiebreaker however forced a third, winning the second by the score of 6-4. Unfortunately, Gabrielsen would fall 6-4 in the final set.
 
The Rebels stay in Texas to face another Big 12 opponent in TCU on Sunday, February 5. The match was moved up to 1 p.m. CT.
