Women's Tennis Fall Preview | Wisconsin Badgers

MADISON, Wis – Looking for a preview for the 2022 women’s tennis team fall season? Look no further because we have listed five things you should know about the upcoming season.

Here are five things to know:

1. COACHES: In her seventh year as head coach of the Badgers, Kelcy McKenna leads the way once again. Assistant coach Taylor Russo is a new face on the sidelines and comes in after a standout career at Auburn. Christina Zordini begins her second season as the volunteer assistant coach after competing for the Badgers for four years.

2. LOOKING BACK: The Badgers had a strong season in 2021, going 17-9 overall and 8-3 in conference play. Some highlights of the season included a 4-3 win of No. 36 SMU, a 6-1 win over No. 61 Penn State, a big 4-3 rivalry win against No. 61 Minnesota and a Big Ten Tournament win over Illinois 4-1.

3. INTERNATIONAL PRESENCE: One thing that is so great about this year’s roster is its diverse makeup as well as its big international presence. Not only are there players from around the country, but there are players from around the globe. Four of the nine athletes on the roster are from overseas and include Xinyu Cai (Wuhan, China), Alina Mukhortova (Krasnodar, Russia), Charmaine Seah (Singapore) and Antonela Stoica (Ploiesti, Romania).

4. SCHEDULE: The fall season is different from the spring season because of its main focus on individual players. There are nine different events in the fall season, with all of them being out-of-state. For most of these events not every player goes. There are even some weekends where players will be playing at the same time just in different locations/tournaments. The spring season is more of a consistent set of home and away fixtures.

5. NEXT UP: After the MKE Classic this weekend, which Xinyu Cai and Taylor Cataldi are participating in, the next event up is the ITK 15k in Lubbock, Texas. This tournament spans from Sunday, Sept. 18-15.
