MADISON, Wis. – For the first time since 2019, the Wisconsin women’s tennis team will contened in the NCAA Tournament as it will start its postseason journey against LSU at the Iowa State regional.
The will mark the first matchup between Wisconsin and LSU since 1980, where the Badgers won 6-3.
This year marks the ninth time that UW has qualified as a team for the NCAA championship and the 10th time the Badgers have made it to the national championship tournament. UW holds a 4-8 record in its previous eight NCAA appearances.
The Badgers are enjoying one of their best season in program history, as they enter the tournament with a 19-6 record. Wisconsin reached as high as No. 11 in the ITA rankings, its highest team ranking since 1996, and has been ranked in the ITA top 25 for 10 straight weeks.
Wisconsin had previously qualified for eight NCAA Tournaments in program history: 1988, 1989, 1996, 1997, 2002, 2004, 2015, and 2019. Additionally, the Badgers appeared in the 1980 AIAW Team Championship. The furthest UW has ever gone in the Tournament was in 1997 when Wisconsin won its first three matches before bowing to eventual national champion Stanford.
