Women’s Tennis Continues Away Bout in Baton Rouge


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women’s tennis team (1-2) is set to continue their three-week road trip in Baton Rouge, La. The Nittany Lions play Harvard (3-0) on Saturday at 10 a.m. and LSU (2-0) on Sunday at 11 a.m. C.T.
 
“This week’s focus has been all about being brave and taking opportunities,” said head coach Alexandra Anghelescu. “This team is committed to our goals, and we are excited for this weekend to keep pushing our limits and get one step closer to our goals.”

LAST TIME OUT
 
The Nittany Lions fell to Princeton, 6-1, on Jan. 22. The Tigers claimed the doubles point and won on five of the six singles courts to walk away with the win. 
 
Alina Lebedeva gave Penn State its lone point by defeating Eva Elbaz, 6-7, 6-4, 4-10.
 
SCOUTING HARVARD
 
Harvard starts its 2023 season 3-0, including a 7-0 blank over Army. The team’s most recent victory is a 4-3 win against Boston College. 
 
The match this weekend will mark the fourth time Penn State women’s tennis has competed against Harvard. The Nittany Lions are 2-1 in the previous meetings against the Crimson.
 
LOOKING AT LSU
 
The LSU women’s tennis team begins its season with two back-to-back wins over the ULM Warhawks. 
 
The Tigers’ roster includes two ranked players. No. 7 ranked Kylie Collins, who is also an ITA Doubles and Singles All-American, transferred to LSU in the offseason. The roster also includes No. 32 ranked redshirt freshman Anastasiya Komar.
 
Anastasiya Komar is a part of a No. 7 ranked doubles duo as well that includes Nikita Vishwase.

Penn State women’s tennis heads to West Virginia to compete against Marshall on Feb. 4 at noon and West Virginia on Feb. 5 at noon E.T.
