Women’s Tennis Concludes Regular Season in Alabama – University of South Carolina Athletics

Columbia, S.C. – ­No. 29 South Carolina women’s tennis will wrap up their regular season with a pair of SEC matches down in Alabama this weekend. The Gamecocks will first stop in Auburn to take on the No. 15 Tigers on Friday, April 14 at 4:00 pm ET before making the trip to Tuscaloosa for the regular season finale at No. 61 Alabama. That match will take place on Sunday, April 16 at noon ET.

Gamecock Notables

  • The South Carolina women’s tennis team is currently ranked No. 29 in the ITA Team Rankings but has been ranked as high as No. 25 this season. The team is 12-8 overall and has a 7-4 record in conference play. They enter the weekend coming off of a pair of top-15 SEC losses at then-No. 5 Georgia and then-No. 15 Tennessee.
  • Two Gamecocks find themselves in the ITA Singles Rankings – No. 9 Ayana Akli and No. 20 Sarah Hamner.
  • Akli has an impressive 14-1 record in dual play this season, all from the top spot in the lineup. She is 29-7 overall with 20 of those wins coming over ranked opponents including five in the top-30.
  • Hamner primarily plays at the No. 2 position for the Gamecocks where she is 5-5. She has an overall record of 18-10 this season.
  • At No. 3 for South Carolina this season is sophomore Gracie Mulville who recently earned the highest ranked win of her career after defeating No. 56 Mell Reasco of Georgia in straight sets.
  • Akli and Hamner are also ranked together in the ITA Doubles Rankings. They come in at No. 54 with their 14-7 overall record. They are 7-2 in dual play, all from the No. 1 position.
  • Senior Ana Cruz and junior Allie Gretkowski have been a staple of the doubles lineup for the team this season. They are 13-6 overall and 10-4 in dual play.

Scouting the Tigers

  • Auburn is currently ranked No. 15 in the ITA Team Rankings but have been ranked as high as No. T-7 this season. They have an overall record of 17-6 and a 7-4 mark in SEC play and are 10-2 when playing on their home courts this season.
  • The Tigers have two players in the ITA Singles Rankings – No. 43 Carolyn Ansari and No. 46 Ariana Arseneault.
  • Arsenault primarily plays at the top spot in the lineup for the team where she is 8-7. She is 13-7 overall and has a 6-4 mark against SEC opponents.
  • Ansari is the Tigers’ primary No. 2 player. She is 11-4 from that position and 11-9…
