Women’s Tennis Come Up Short in 4-3 Loss to Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Ole Miss women’s tennis came up short against No. 56 Arkansas with a 4-3 loss on Friday. Ludmila Kariesova extends her singles win streak to seven.
 
Ole Miss (7-6, 1-4 SEC) fell behind Arkansas (7-7, 1-4 SEC) early, losing the doubles point at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Lillian Gabrielsen and Kelsey Mize did not finish their match but were ahead 6-5 on court two.
 
In singles play, the Razorbacks took the first two singles matches at No. 5 and No. 3 singles in straight sets. Kareisova did not stop fighting at the second position. Kareisova started down 3-0 in the first set but came back to win the set 6-4. She then made quick work in the second set with a 6-1 win. The sophomore took down No. 68 Carolina Gomez Alonso, winning her sixth total ranked win and her third ranked singles win in five matches.
 
Unfortunately, Arkansas won the next singles match on court four. Emma Kette bounced back from a 6-0 opening set loss by winning the second set 6-0. Kette fought in the third set to a tiebreaker but would ultimately drop the match.
 
Anaelle Leclercq-Ficher and Reka Zadori finished their matches with third-set super tiebreaker wins. Leclercq-Ficher grabbed her first SEC singles win with a 10-8 score in the third set at No. 1 singles.  Zadori won her tiebreaker 10-4 at No. 6 singles.
 
The Rebels end their road stretch with a match against Missouri on Sunday, March 19, starting at 11 a.m. CT.
