Women's Tennis Announces Spring Schedule

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State is hopeful that their successful fall season will propel women’s tennis to a solid spring season.

The Bulldogs have 18-home matches scheduled at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre and Rula Tennis Pavillion this spring, including an 11-match homestand to start things off in January.

“We have a bunch of new players,” head coach Daryl Greenan said. “The fall has been a chance for them to gel as a team and get used to each other. For our freshmen, they were able to get used to the college environment. We have had some solid results. It has been a good fall to help prepare us for the spring.”

MSU will host a doubleheader on Jan. 15 against Louisiana Lafayette and UAB to kick off the spring season. The following weekend, the Bulldogs also host Arkansas State and Jacksonville State for a doubleheader.

On Jan. 29, the Bulldogs will host Tennessee State for a doubleheader. To begin the month of February, MSU will take on Iowa State and then Memphis a few days later on Feb. 5. Belmont and Alabama A&M travel to Starkville to face the Bulldogs on Feb. 10 to close out MSU’s 11-match homestand.

“This is what we have trained for,” Greenan said. “It’s our main season. We are looking forward to starting off with a whole bunch of matches at home with a lot of doubleheaders. We are looking forward to some big crowds at home. If it is cooler, we will be indoors and hopefully it will get loud in there and the girls will get off on the right foot.”

Mississippi State will finish out its non-conference slate by hitting the road to California to close out the month of February. State will face Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo on Feb. 22. The Bulldog then take on UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 24 and Oregon the following day in Santa Barbara.

State starts SEC play at home with back-to-back matches against Kentucky (March 3) and Vanderbilt (March 5). The Bulldogs will hit the road for their next four SEC matches. MSU will face Alabama on March 10, Auburn on March 12, Missouri on March 17, and Arkansas on March 19.

The Bulldogs will then have a three-match homestand where they will host Florida on March 24, South Carolina on March 26 and instate rival Ole Miss on March 31.

Mississippi State then hits the road again to Baton Rouge to take on LSU on April 7 and then to College Station to face Texas A&M on April 9.
