Women’s Tennis Announces 2023 Spring Schedule

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – With the month of December having arrived, Wake Forest women’s tennis has officially finalized its 2023 spring schedule, announced by the program on Monday (Dec. 5).

“We are excited by the challenges of our spring schedule,” said head coach Jeff Wyshner. “The non-conference slate is a good one, as we were able to add top-50 opponents Charlotte and Old Dominion to our existing annual matches with South Carolina, Tennessee and Furman. The Blue Gray Classic is always our favorite event each year, with the way that event and our host families treat us. We’ll be going out there with the goal of winning the team championship that weekend. Then, the ACC schedule is its same challenging gauntlet that makes ACC tennis the best in the country.

“We have a younger team this year with 4 freshmen who are going to play an important role, so our upperclassmen will have to do a great job being supportive and helping them, and the entire group will have to be putting in the work from this point on in order for us to be successful given the challenges we will face.”

The Demon Deacons open the spring with a weekend test at South Carolina’s hosted Duals (Jan. 13-15) before holding their home opener on Jan. 22 that features a doubleheader versus Charlotte and Richmond. Participation in the annual Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kick-Off Weekend will round out the month of January for the team.

Three weeks of Wake Forest home action compose February’s first half, including matches against Old Dominion, Campbell, Furman, and UNC Greensboro. The Deacons’ first conference matchup is slated for Feb. 17, hosting Big Four opponent NC State. After making a road trip to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks two days later (Feb. 19), Wake Forest will step into the 75th annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic during February’s closing days.

Conference competition begins for the Deacs in early March, starting with an ACC home opener versus Clemson on the third day of the month. The Deacs will also hold another home doubleheader that same weekend (March 5), bringing in Georgia Tech and Middle Tennessee. Four consecutive road matches of conference play will take up the next pair of weeks before Wake Forest returns to its own courts for a outing versus Boston College on March 31.
