SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women’s tennis head coach, Ric Mortera, has officially announced the signing of Lucia Quiterio. She is set to join the Utes for the 2023-24 season.
“We are so excited that Lucia (Quiterio) will be joining us for her final year of college tennis,” said head coach Ric Mortera. “It has been fun to see how her career has evolved throughout the years and the impact she has had on Charlotte. She has a tremendous game and competitive spirit that can have such a good influence on those around her both in practice and matches. More importantly, she is a great person and someone who is going to be a great leader for our program.”
Quiterio comes to Utah as a graduate transfer from UNC Charlotte where she is currently ranked No.21 in the National ITA doubles rankings.
She was named Conference USA Newcomer of the Year in 2021-22. She also was the ITA Region singles champion. She earned Second Team All-Conference Singles Player.
Quiterio was Charlotte’s most successful singles player in the spring of 2022 with 17 victories. She picked up nine wins in the third flight and seven in the fourth flight. Along with her successes in singles play, she peaked at No. 23 in the ITA Doubles Rankings with Margaux Maquet. Her and Maquet played every single match at the top doubles flight and posted an 18-4 record.
Before her time at Charlotte, Quiterio played two years at Texas A&M where she posted a 26-4 singles and a 24-11 doubles record over the course of two seasons (including the COVID-19 spring of 2020). She’s earned ITA Scholar Athlete accolades twice in her career.
