Wolverines Put Three on All-B1G Team; Jones, Bernstein Honored

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan women’s tennis team collected multiple postseason Big Ten honors, with three players earning all-conference nods, Ronni Bernstein grabbing her eighth Coach of the Year honor and Lily Jones being tabbed the Freshman of the Year as the Big Ten announced the honors on Wednesday (April 26).
Kari Miller, Jaedan Brown and Julia Fliegner each grabbed a spot on the All-Big Ten team, as Michigan led the way with three selections. U-M won the regular-season title with an 11-0 record, marking its 10th championship since 2010.
Bernstein grabbed her Big Ten-record eighth Coach of the Year honor after leading Michigan to its 10th Big Ten championship since 2010. U-M went 11-0 in conference action, outscoring opponents 47-7 during the stretch. Bernstein is one of just three women’s tennis coaches in Big Ten history to win 10 championships. The Wolverines have been ranked in the top six nationally since the ITA switched to computer rankings at the end of February and head to the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 1 seed.
Jones is the seventh Wolverine to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors and the first since 2013. She comes in at No. 77 in this week’s singles rankings and is tied for the team lead with 25 singles victories. She went 8-0 in Big Ten action on the singles court and 8-2 in doubles during conference action with Fliegner. Jones was the Big Ten Athlete of the Week one time this past season, clinching Michigan’s come-from-behind win at Illinois (April 2). She also was Michigan’s sportsmanship honoree.
Miller earned her third All-Big Ten honor, going 10-3 in dual matches and coming in at No. 37 in this week’s singles rankings. Miller was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week twice this season and has played at the top two singles spots on year. She combines with Brown to form the No. 2-ranked doubles pair, tied for the team lead with 25 total doubles wins on the season.
Brown picked up her second straight All-Big Ten honor, combining with Miller to pace the Wolverines at the top of the singles lineup. Brown went 7-2 at the No. 1 spot during dual-match play and is the highest-ranked Wolverine at No. 29….
