Wolfpack Set to Host 2022 Fall College Ranked Spotlight


RALEIGH – The Wolfpack women’s tennis team is set to play host to the 2022 Fall College Ranked Spotlight. This will be NC State’s second consecutive year hosting the tournament, and the Wolfpack will be welcoming 17 other teams this weekend. 

The tournament will last a total of four days (Thursday-Sunday), with Thursday’s doubles matches set to be played on NC State’s campus and the remaining matches scheduled to occur at Cary Tennis Park. There will not be any live results or live streaming of the event. Fans are encouraged to refer to the tournament website for score updates at the end of each day and for more info throughout the invitational.

FORMAT:

NC State is one of the 18 teams set to compete this weekend alongside Arizona State, Auburn, Duke, ETSU, Kansas, Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Princeton, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCF, USC and Virginia. The Pack will be sending four participants who will compete in singles as well as doubles. Of the 18 teams competing this weekend, 17 finished the 2021-22 season ranked within the national top 50. 

The format of the tournament will consist of two singles draws (featuring backdraws), and doubles will be played in a four-pod format. The individual match breakdown for each day of the tournament is as follows:

Thursday: 2 doubles matches

Friday: 2 singles matches

Saturday: 2 singles matches

Sunday: 1 singles matches, 1 doubles match

WOLFPACK REPRESENTATION:

The Pack will be sending four players, two of which are featured in the top 55 of the 2022 preseason national singles rankings. Abigail Rencheli (No. 23) and Sophie Abrams will compete in the singles matches and will also pair up for doubles during this weekend’s tournament, while Alana Smith (No. 55) and Amelia Rajecki will also play singles matches and as a doubles pair. 

Rencheli goes into the College Ranked Spotlight earning ITA All-America citations in singles following the 2021-22 season. Rencheli finished her 2021-22 season ranked No. 22 nationally in doubles, posting a 20-12 mark during her season. Rencheli will pair up with Abrams, marking their first time playing as a duo in the 2021-22 season. Abrams ended her 2021-22 season reaching an 18-6 mark in doubles and posted a team-leading 10 doubles wins in ACC matches.
