MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men’s tennis team (1-21, 0-9 B1G) lost to No. 1 Ohio State (27-1, 9-0 B1G), 7-0, in its Senior Day match Sunday, Apr. 21 in Nielsen Tennis Stadium. Wisconsin honored Jason Hildebrandt, Gabriel Huber, and Mihailo Popovic ahead of the match to celebrate their contributions to the program, and then it came time to play the last regular-season match of the season.
Heading into singles play, the Badgers were forced to forfeit the five and six matches. The Buckeyes came out strong, asserting themselves as the outright Big Ten Champions. Huber fell first to the No. 16-ranked JJ Tracy, 6-1, 6-2, giving Ohio State the win on the day. The match continued to play out with Fullerton dropping the No. 4 match, 6-2, 6-2 to No. 121 Alexnder Bernard, followed by Minasyan losing 6-3, 6-0 to Cannon Kingsley. The final match of the day between Zlatohlavek and No. 26 Jack Anthrop went long, as the Badger freshman put up a strong fight. While Zlatohlavek battled hard, eventually, Anthrop took the win, 6-4, 7-5 to conclude the regular season.
Wisconsin forfeited the No. 3 doubles match, and played Gabriel Huber/Michael Minasyan at No. 1 doubles and Matthew Fullerton/Tomas Zlatohlavek at match No. 2. Huber/Minasyan were up against the No. 3 doubles pair in the nation, Robert Cash/JJ Tracy and the Buckeyes won the No. 1 doubles match 6-0, thus claiming the first point of the day.
