Wisconsin falls to No. 55 SMU

DALLAS, TX — The Wisconsin men’s tennis team (1-12, 0-0 Big Ten) lost to the No. 55 SMU Mustangs (12-6, 2-0 AAC), 7-0, in its final non-conference match of the season, Saturday, Mar. 16. 

Wisconsin was forced to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match due to injury, leaving Michael Minasyan/Matthew Fullerton at the No. 1 match and Collin Beduhn/Gabriel Huber at the No. 2 match. Huber and Beduhn won 6-3 against Maks Silagy/Julian Steinhausen, but the doubles point belonged to SMU after Wisconsin lost at the No. 1 match, 6-1.

Heading into singles play, the Badgers had to forfeit both the No. 5 and 6 singles matches. The No. 4 match was the first to conclude, with Beduhn falling to Louis Cloud, 6-1, 6-3. Minasyan’s match was the next to wrap up, with him dropping the No. 1 match to Adam Neff, 6-1, 6-3. Matthew Fullerton lost to Eric Hadigian at the No. 2 match, 6-3, 6-1. The final match of the day came down to Huber and Jerry Barton and the No. 3 match, with Barton winning, 6-4, 7-5.

Up Next: Wisconsin enters Big Ten play with an away match against Michigan on Friday, Mar. 22 at 4 p.m. They will return to action Sunday, Mar. 24 as it takes on Michigan State at 11 a.m. from East Lansing.
