ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Wisconsin men’s tennis team (1-13, 0-1 Big Ten) lost to the No. 43 Michigan Wolverines (7-10, 1-0), 7-0 in its first conference match of the season, Friday, Mar. 22.
Wisconsin entered into Big Ten play with two doubles pairs, Matthew Fullerton/Michael Minasyan at No. 1 singles and a new pair consisting of Jason Hildebrandt/Collin Beduhn at match No. 2. The latter match lost first, as Michigan’s Will Cooksey/Alex Cairo won 6-2. This was followed by another Wolverine win by the No. 27-ranked pair of Gavin Young/Jacob Bickersteth, 6-3.
Singles match No. 4 was the first to wrap, with Tomas Zlatohlavek losing to Nicholas Steiglehner, 6-2, 6-3. Next up, Fullerton was defeated by Bjorn Swenson at the No. 2 match, 6-1, 7-6, and then Hildenrandt lost to Mert Oral, 6-4, 6-3 at match No. 5 in his season debut. The final two matches were close, with Minasyan and Beduhn both playing three sets. Beduhn ultimately lost to Will Cooksey in the No. 3 match, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7), while Minasyan lost to Bickersteth, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Up Next: Wisconsin will continue its weekend in Michigan as it returns to action Sunday, Mar. 24 to face the No. 18 Michigan Spartans at 11 a.m. in East Lansing.
