SANTA BARBARA, Calif.– Arizona secured a 4-2 victory over UC Santa Barbara in the 2024 Round Robin Tournament. Due to the weather conditions and rescheduling the match was set to only be played in singles, but still play to clinch.
The Gauchos got an early lead as No.64 Amelia Honer secured a 6-1, 6-1 victory against No.118 Reece Carter. Brandelyn Fulgenzi started things off for Arizona earning a straight-set victory against Carla Pacot 6-2, 6-1. Midori Castillo-Meza got the Cats the lead 2-1 in the second straight-set win for Arizona 6-1, 6-3. Following close behind, freshman Teja Tirunelveli extended the lead 3-1 in the third straight set for Arizona, dominating Lucy Lu 6-3, 6-1.
Arizona secured the win after senior Kayla Wilkins fought for the last point and took down Tyra Richardson 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.
The Wildcats will be traveling again to the Blue Grey Classic Feb. 23 and 24 at
Lagoon Parks Tennis Center in Montgomery, Ala.
