BERKELEY, Calif. – #44 Arizona Women’s Tennis closed out their Bay Area road trip on Saturday, falling to #42 Cal 0-7 in their fifth conference match of the season. The Wildcats now hold a 14-9 overall record, 1-4 in conference play.
The team was unable to secure the doubles point on Saturday. Salma Ziouti and Reece Carter were defeated by Haley Giavara and Valentina Ivanov before California’s Erin Richardson and Berta Passola Folch clinched the point on Court 3, 6-3, leaving the battle on Court 1 between Parker Fry/Kayla Wilkins and Jessica Alsola/Katja Wiersholm abandoned at 4-4.
In singles competition, Arizona dropped the first set on all six courts, but came back fighting in the second. After losing a tough first set 1-6, senior Kayla Wilkins took Folch to 7-5 in set two on Court 5 before being bested 0-1(5) in set three.
The Wildcats will be back at home to take on UCLA on Friday, April 7 at 12 p.m. MST at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
