Wildcat Invitational Kicks Off - University of Arizona Athletics


TUCSON, Ariz. – Men’s Tennis finished day one of the Wildcat Invitational with one doubles win and three singles wins. Making their Arizona debut at the tournament were freshmen Jay Friend, Eric Padgham and Dominique Rolland

Friend and Padgham won their first-ever collegiate doubles match 6-2 against Loic Van Zeggelaar and Adrien Coulome (GCU). 

Friend put up an impressive first singles performance with a dominant straight set victory against Corey Clarke (NMSU) (6-3, 6-0). Padgham stumbled in singles falling 3-6, 4-6 to Itay Feigin (NMSU). 

Rolland claimed his spot in the semifinals after besting two of three sets against Jordy Visser (NMSU) (6-1, 3-6, 6-1). Jared Horwood closed out a successful day for the Cats when he defeated Roko Stipetic (NMSU) in straight sets 6-4, 6-3. 

He and Rolland will compete in doubles play on day two after receiving a first round bye. Padgham competes in the singles consolation bracket Saturday at 11:45 a.m. against Van Zeggelaar.

  • 8:00 a.m. (MST) – Friend/Padgham (Doubles) vs. Dominik Buzonics/Piotr Galus (NAU)

  • 8:00 a.m. (MST) – Horwood/Rolland (Doubles) vs. Ntal Richards/Wyatt Anderson (GCU)

  • 9:15 a.m. (MST) – Horwood vs. Georgio Samaha (UNM) 

  • 9:15 a.m. (MST) – Rolland vs. Jan Pucalka (UNM) 

  • 9:15 a.m. (MST) – Friend vs. Oliver Andersson (GONZ)
