Wiersholm Falls In Qualifying Singles Opener

Katja Wiersholm moves on to the qualifying singles consolation draw on Tuesday before starting play in main draw doubles on Wednesday.


CARY, N.C. – Cal women’s tennis sophomore Katja Wiersholm dropped her qualifying singles opener of the ITA All-American Championships on Monday, falling to Ohio State’s Sydni Ratliff at Cary Tennis Park.
 
Wiersholm won the first set on Monday, but the ninth-seeded and 51st-ranked Buckeye won the match, 5-7, 6-2, 6-0. Wiersholm moves on to the consolation bracket, in which she’ll play Pennsylvania’s Sabine Rutlauka on Tuesday at 9 a.m. ET.
 
The Golden Bear was seeking to join teammate Jessica Alsola in the singles main draw. Alsola and Wiersholm will compete together in the All-American doubles main draw, which starts Wednesday in Cary.
