Vols Stay Hot on Second Day of SEC/Big 12 Challenge


STILLWATER, Okla.  Members of Tennessee’s tennis squad carried their momentum into the second day of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge Saturday, remaining undefeated in doubles and singles play at Greenwood Tennis Center.
 
James Newton and Chris Li recorded their second doubles win of the weekend, defeating Carl Roothman and Erik Schiessl of Oklahoma State, 6-2, 6-1.
 
Tennessee earned a spotless 3-0 record against Texas Tech on the singles courts. Newton rolled past Takeyasu Sekiguchi, 6-2, 6-0 while Li took a second-set tiebreaker to take down Sebastian Abboud, 6-2, 7-6(2). Shunsuke Mitsui routed Tyler Stewart in 6-2, 7-5 fashion.
 
Li and Newton will face Baylor in doubles competition at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday. Mitsui, Li and Newton will compete against Texas Tech in singles following doubles play.
