Vols Earn 2024 ITA Division I Academic Awards


TEMPE, Ariz. – Following a dual season in which the Tennessee men’s tennis team reached the 25-win mark and made the NCAA quarterfinals for the third time in the last four campaigns, the Vols were honored for their efforts in the classroom Monday by the ITA.
 
With four Vols being named ITA Scholar-Athletes, Tennessee also garnered ITA All-Academic Team status, posting a collective GPA of 3.37 during the 2023-24 academic year.
 
The individuals who earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors were Angel Diaz, Younes Lalami, Johannus Monday and James Newton. To be eligible for ITA Scholar-Athlete status, these student-athletes needed to attain a GPA of 3.50 or higher while earning a varsity letter during the 2023-24 school year. For Monday, it marks the second time he received the honor while at Tennessee.
 
Since Chris Woodruff was promoted to head coach in May 2017, Tennessee has logged 37 ITA Scholar-Athletes recognitions, including a trend of at least four Vols being awarded each of the past three seasons.
