GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Alvaro Saez-Royuela Ariza of Virginia Tech was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week while Florida State’s Joshua Dous-Karpenschif and Maks Silagy earned ACC Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week honors.
Ariza earned his first ranked win of the season over No. 62 Matisse Bobichon of the 28th-ranked VCU at the No. 2 singles spot, giving No. 65 Virginia Tech its lone point in the loss to the Rams. The junior won in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (9). The Castellon, Spain, native and his partner Alberto Orso were leading 53rd-ranked pair of Bobichon and Rayane Stable of VCU in their doubles match, 5-3, before it went unfinished.
Dous-Karpenschif and Silagy contributed to No. 16 Florida State’s 6-1 win over UCF. The pair took down No. 48 Bogdan Pavel and Lleyton Cronje 6-3 to clinch the doubles point for the Seminoles on court one. Dous-Karpenschif also cliched the match for Florida State with a come-from-behind win at the No. 5 singles position.
