Virginia Tech hosts VT Dynamic Duo Tournament

BLACKSBURG, Va. –

DAY 3 – 

The Hokies closed out the tournament on Sunday with round four. 

Two pairs of Hokies faced off in the final-two round. Matt Harper and Alberto Orso came in first place in the tournament after they won doubles 8-3 and Harper won the singles match 6-4, 6-4 to Ilyas Fahim and Julian Lozano. Fahim and Lozano ended as runners-up in the tournament.

Cueto also picked up a win on Sunday 7-5, 6-3 against UTC. 

DAY 2 –

Day two of action started with singles to complete round two. 

Patrik Jurina picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win against Purdue and Julian Lozano won his singles match against ODU, by a score of 6-4, 6-4. Matt Harper defeated ETSU 6-2, 5-7, 10-4. 

After rounding out singles, round three was kicked off with doubles matches. Two Hokie duos faced off against each other, with Ilyas Fahim and Julian Lozano securing an 8-4 victory against their teammates Damian Sancilio and Patrik Jurina. Harper and Orso also won in doubles, 8-3 against ODU. 

In singles play, Lozano defeated Sancilio 2-6, 6-1, 11-9, and Jurina won 7-6 (3), 6-2 against Fahim. Harper also won in singles against ODU 7-5, 3-6, 10-6. Diego Cueto won his match 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 to VCU.

DAY 1 –

Virginia Tech welcomed six schools to Blacksburg to compete in the VT Dynamic Duo Tournament. Players are paired up and move through the tournament as duos, each round with one doubles match and one singles match per player. The duo that wins best-of-three advances to the next round. 

The teams played round one and the doubles component of round two. 

Ilyas Fahim and Julian Lozano advanced after an 8-7 (4) doubles win and Julian Lozano winning 6-4, 6-4 against VCU. 

Patrik Jurina and Damian Sancilio both picked up singles wins against UTC, moving them to the winners bracket. Jurina won 7-6 (2), 6-3 and Sancilio won 6-2, 7-6 (5). 

Diego Cueto de Romana and Ryan Morgan faced off against Purdue and secured a doubles win, 8-7 (6).

Matt Harper and Alberto Orso won in doubles and both singles, taking an 8-2 win in doubles.

Harper picked up a 6-4, 7-5 win, and Orso won a back-and-forth match 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 (4). The duo moved on to the winners bracket. 

In round two, three duos started out with a doubles victory. Damian Sancilio and Patrik Jurina defeated Purdue 8-6. Ilyas Fahim and Julian Lozano picked up an 8-5 victory against ODU and Diego Cueto de Romana and Ryan Morgan took down ETSU 8-1.
