CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 2 Virginia men’s tennis team (18-4, 10-0 ACC) posted a 7-0 victory against Boston College (5-13, 0-10) on Sunday (April 7) at the Virginia Tennis Facility at the Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville, Va.
The Cavaliers won all three doubles courts and took all six singles matches in straight sets to pick up the 7-0 victory in the team’s final home match of the regular season.
Grad student James Hopper and sophomore Ty Switzer, playing together for the first time this season, opened the match with a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles. Sophomore Doug Yaffa and senior Chris Rodesch clinched the point with a 6-2 win at two. Senior Alexander Kiefer and freshman Dylan Dietrich won a tiebreaker, 7-3, to decide the top court to complete the doubles sweep.
Senior Jeffrey von der Schulenburg sailed through a 6-1, 6-0 win at singles court two to make it 2-0. Dietrich had a similar result at No. 3, winning 6-1, 6-0. Rodesch clinched the victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win on the top court.
Hopper picked up his first ACC singles victory of his career with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5. It was Hopper’s first time appearing in the singles lineup since February 9. Graziani and Kiefer added victories on courts six and four to complete the sweep.
MATCH NOTES
- Virginia has won 48 consecutive conference matches. Their last loss in a conference contest was Jan. 18, 2020, against Louisville
- Virginia has not lost an outdoor match since falling in the Round of 16 of the 2021 NCAA Championship
