CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia senior Iñaki Montes has been named ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week and first-year Dylan Dietrich has been named the ACC Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week in honors announced Tuesday (March 5) by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Montes picked up a straight-set victory against No. 25 Filippo Moroni in Virginia’s 4-3 victory against No. 3 Wake Forest. It was the highest-ranked victory by an ACC player this week and Montes’s first top-25 win of the year. Montes also partnered with Dietrich to help win the doubles point in Sunday’s 4-3 victory against No. 22 NC State.
Dietrich won the clincher in the victory against Wake Forest. With the match tied 3-3, Dietrich broke Matthew Thomson’s serve at 5-6 to secure the victory for the Cavaliers. Dietrich is 9-4 in singles this season and 7-3 in doubles.
These are Virginia’s seventh and eighth overall weekly honors this season. This is Montes’s first ACC Player of the Week honor and Dietrich’s fourth ACC Freshman of the Week. James Hopper (Jan. 16) and Chris Rodesch (1/23 & 2/20) have also been named ACC Player of the Week and Rodesch and Jeffrey von der Schulenburg (Jan. 23) earned doubles team honors.
This is Montes’s fourth career ACC Player of the Week honor.
