California women’s tennis stars Hannah Viller Moeller and Katja Wiersholm were named to the College Sports Communicators’ NCAA Division I Academic All-America Teams for their performances on the courts and in the classroom, the CSC announced Tuesday. These are the first CSC Academic All-America accolades for Viller Moeller, a second-team honoree, and Wiersholm, who garnered third-team distinction.
Both collected CSC Academic All-District laurels in May, when they were also key contributors to the 10th-ranked Golden Bears’ run to the NCAA Super Regionals.
To achieve CSC Academic All-America status, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, and an undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. As a tennis nominee, a student-athlete must have played in at least 70% of her team’s scoring competitions.
Viller Moeller – named to the All-Pac-12 First Team in her final year as a Bear – is a three-time member of the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor roll who graduated with a 3.67 GPA and a degree in economics from Cal and played in the NCAA Singles Championship in May. The Copenhagen, Denmark, native produced her best season in 2023-24 when she finished with a No. 53 singles ranking and a 23-22 record after ranking as high as No. 12 in the fall, when she won the singles title in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships and reached the singles quarterfinals of the ITA National Fall Championships. The veteran paired with freshman Mao Mushika to compile a 25-14 doubles record, finish with a No. 18 ranking and compete in the NCAA Doubles Championship to cap her college career.
Wiersholm, who had a 3.84 GPA and is undeclared, was named to the All-Pac-12 Second-Team selection this season. A two-time member of the Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll who was named a 2023 ITA Scholar-Athlete, the product of Kirkland, Washington, ended the year ranked 65th in singles with a 25-8 record, and, like Viller Moller, she competed in the NCAA Singles Championship.
