NASHVILLE, Tenn. — With its victories last weekend over Wake Forest and No. 12 Ohio State, the Vanderbilt women’s tennis team has advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals in Charlottesville and will face Virginia at noon Central time on Saturday.
It will be the Commodores’ (14-10, 6-7 conference) third appearance in the Sweet 16 in five years.
The latest ITA postseason rankings highlight Bridget Stammel, ranked 74th, and Célia-Belle Mohr, ranked 13th, in singles. Mohr is also ranked in doubles, sitting at No. 33 partnered with Anessa Lee and No. 53 partnered with Holly Staff.
The sixth-ranked Cavaliers (24-4, 12-1 conference) feature four players ranked in singles and four ranked doubles teams. In singles, Hibah Shaikh currently ranks 24th nationally, while Annabelle Xu is 67th. Sara Ziodato and Elaine Chervinsky are also recognized in the lineup for Virginia with national rankings of 91 and 125, respectively.
At doubles, Melodie Collard and Chervinsky pair up and currently rank eighth nationally, and Collard and Xu are ranked 32nd. Natasha Subhash and Shaikh sit at No. 47, in addition to Maggie Navarro and Ziodato ranked 88th.
Up Next: The winner of Saturday’s competition will advance to the NCAA Championships May 20–22 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. After the team tournament, Mohr will represent Vanderbilt at the NCAA Singles Championships and in the Doubles Championships with Lee at the end of May.
