STILLWATER, Okla. – In a 48-minute match against Oklahoma’s No. 40 Dana Guzman, junior Célia-Belle Mohr won her match on the first day of the NCAA Singles Championships due to retirement.
Mohr, ranked 13th nationally in the latest ITA rankings, started behind in the first set after Guzman won the opening game. Mohr quickly responded and was in the lead 4-2 when Guzman retired.
Mohr will take on the winner of the 11 a.m. match between Arkansas’ Carolina Gomez Alonso and Michigan’s Gala Mesochoritou on Tuesday.
No. 33 Anessa Lee and Mohr are scheduled to begin in the NCAA Doubles Championships when the Round of 32 gets underway Tuesday as well, with the duo facing Esha Velaga and Eileen Wang from Pennsylvania.
The pair has gone 26-12 this season and defeated five nationally-ranked doubles opponents.
