Vanderbilt Women's Tennis | Dores Start Strong in Miami

MIAMI — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team began play at the Miami Spring Invite Friday morning by taking on the host Hurricanes in singles before facing N.C. State in doubles.

The Commodores, No. 20 in the latest ITA rankings, won four of the eight singles matches against an 11th-ranked Miami squad.

Bridget Stammel and Holly Staff extended their winning streaks on Friday. Both ended the fall season with three straight wins and started the spring with a victory at Miami. Stammel, who is No. 35 in the ITA rankings, defeated No. 60 Daevenia Achong in three sets while Staff was a straight-sets winner over Brooke Dugarte. 

Anessa Lee and Marcella Cruz were also victorious for the Commodores in singles action. 

Later in the morning, Vanderbilt faced No. 3 NC State in doubles action. Lee teamed with Célia-Belle Mohr to pick up the lone Commodore win from those three matches. Lee and Mohr entered the Spring at No. 55 in the ITA rankings.

Day 2 of the Miami Spring Invite is set for Saturday, with Vanderbilt facing two-time defending national champion Texas in singles and the host Miami in doubles.
