CARY, N.C. — Vanderbilt women’s tennis had a pair of doubles teams defeat nationally-ranked opponents while Bridget Stammel was victorious in her first match of the ITA All-American Championship as qualifying rounds got underway at Cary Tennis Park on Monday.
Holly Staff and Valeria Ray defeated teams ranked 50th and 52nd coming into the tournament to advance, with Célia-Belle Mohr and Anessa Lee beating the No. 35 pair in the country in their opening match of the event as well. Stammel added a straight-sets win in singles action, although the sophomore and Amy Stevens fell to a nationally-ranked opponent in doubles.
Qualifying-round play will conclude Tuesday, leading into the main draw the following day.
