MIAMI — The Vanderbilt women’s tennis team began play after a short weather delay at the Miami Spring Invite Friday afternoon, taking on UCF in singles and doubles.
The Commodores, No. 17 in the latest ITA rankings, won one of two doubles matches against UCF.
Holly Staff teamed with Célia-Belle Mohr to pick up the Commodores’ win in the doubles matches. Mohr entered the spring season at No. 14 in the ITA rankings.
Later in the afternoon, Vanderbilt faced UCF again in singles action. Amy Stevens, Bridget Stammel, Sonya Macavei and Valeria Ray entered singles play on Friday. Stammel, who is No. 24 in the ITA rankings, picked up the first Commodore victory of the day, defeating Sophia Biolay in straight sets. Also bringing in a win for the Dores was No. 75 Ray, fighting for the point against Jantje Tilbuerger.

Day 2 of the Miami Spring Invite is scheduled for Saturday, with Vanderbilt scheduled to face TCU in singles and the Miami host in doubles.
