NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt men’s tennis will spend the weekend on the road, journeying to Starkville, Mississippi, on Friday to face No. 15 Mississippi State and to Oxford on Sunday to meet Ole Miss, ranked 53rd.
This past weekend the Dores went up against No. 45 Arkansas and No. 24 Alabama. In Friday’s match against the Razorbacks, Vanderbilt first dropped the doubles point and later fell, posting a 0-7 loss. The Commodores also lost on Sunday when the Crimson Tide overcame the Dores 4-3.
The Commodores spend another week on the charts, ranked 64th in the latest ITA rankings, with freshman Danil Panarin ranked nationally in singles at No. 57.
Mississippi State
Mississippi State (10-4) is 2-1 in conference play for the season and enters the weekend ranked 15th by the ITA. Last weekend the Bulldogs split their matches, falling to No. 10 Texas A&M on Friday, 0-7, and claiming a 4-3 victory over No. 28 LSU on Sunday. The Bulldogs have two student-athletes ranked nationally for singles, Petar Jovanovic at No. 27 and Carles Hernandez at No. 121, with Jovanovic also featured in doubles alongside Benito Sanchez Martinez at No. 35.
Ole Miss
The Rebels, ranked 53rd, have an 8-6 record for the season and are 1-2 in conference play. Last weekend saw the Rebels take on No. 28 LSU on Friday, overcoming the Tigers 4-2. Sunday, Ole Miss faced No. 10 Texas A&M and fell to the Aggies 5-2. In doubles, Ole Miss’ tandem of Lukas Engelhardt and Nikola Slavic are ranked 54th.
