Vandecasteele Wins ITA Edwardsville Futures

Quinn futures 2

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Oregon’s Quinn Vandecasteele won his first professional title last weekend, taking home first place in the Edwardsville Futures.

Vandecasteele has been on a roll this summer, improving to 25-5 in tournament play. The Edwardsville tournament was the third finals appearance for Quinn, who was determined to bring home his first championship.

His path to the finals was not easy, as he entered the tournament as a qualifier and needed six wins in a row to reach the championship match. He defeated two top-500 ATP players along the way and was set to face No. 432 and the No. 1 seed Aidan McHugh in the championship.

An estimated crowd of 300 people showed up to watch the finals on Sunday and they were in for a treat. The Ducks’ standout took the first set 6-3, before clinching the match with a 7-6(5) nailbiter.

“I didn’t want it to go to three (sets) and let him get that momentum back,” Vandecasteele said. “It was a crucial game to get the hold and obviously the tiebreaker. It’s always nerve-wracking to see what he can come up with.”

Avoiding third sets was a trend all weekend for Vandecasteele, who reached only one third set in seven wins.
