Utah women’s tennis continued fall competitions at the Women of Troy Invitational.
On Friday, Utah took on Pacific and Utes duo Kat Lyman and Yuhan Liu defeated Megan Carmichael and Alexis Sam 6-1. In singles action, Liu defeated Klara Kosan 7-5, 6-3. Ana Luisa Cruz picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Indiya McCleod. Samantha Horwood also picked up a victory on the first day by defeating Carmichael 6-4, 6-2.
On the second day of the tournament, Utah took on opponents from Pac-12 foe and tournament host, USC. Lyman and Liu picked up a second straight win by defeating Gabrielle Lee and Isabelle Lee 6-3.
In singles action, Liu defeated Sloane Morra in an intense tiebreak match with scores of 5-7, 6-2 (10-7). Lyman picked up an impressive singles win over Isabelle Lee with scores of 6-1, 6-3.
On the final day of the tournament, Utah took on Loyola Marymount. Utah mixed up the doubles duos where Horwood and Liu batted Kim-Michaela Zahraj and Stefania Rogozinska-Dzik but fell 5-7.
Cruz and Lyman also battled and narrowly fell 6-4 in a doubles matchup with Isabella Tcherkes-Zade and Carlota Molina.
In singles action against LMU, Liu dropped the first set but came back and won the second set in a tiebreaker with a 7-6 (3) score. In the tiebreaker point Liu stayed close but fell 10-8.
Lyman picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Molina in singles action while Cruz defeated Tcherkes-Zade 7-5, 6-3.
Horwood finished the weekend on a high note with an intense win over Zaharaj. Horwood posted 6-1, 6-7 (4) scores and pushed to dominate the tiebreak set with a 10-5 score.
The Utes are set to host ITA Regionals in Salt Lake City Oct. 18-22 before heading to the Aggie Invite at Texas A&M Nov. 3-Nov. 5.
