Utes Conclude Utah Fall Invitational


SALT LAKE CITY  – The University of Utah men’s tennis team hosted Idaho State, Utah State and Weber State in the Utah Fall Invitational. Utah had four Utes competing and were led by Berk Bugarikj and Dante Teramo who each went undefeated in singles competition. 

On Friday, in doubles action, Utah duo Teramo and Dylan Applegate picked up a 6-3 win over Idaho State’s Lewie Bouman and Sam Wensley.

All four Utes competing picked up singles victories on the first day of action. Bugarikj was ahead 6-0, 2-0 before Weber States’ Tristan Sarap retired, giving Bugarikj the win. Max Relic got a strong win as he defeated WSU’s Liam Day 6-2, 6-1. 

Teramo battled in a full three set match with Jordan Coutinho. Teramo won the first set 7-6 (7-4) before dropping the second set 1-6. He then battled in the third set and tiebreak for a score of 7-6 (7-5) to claim the win. 

Later in the afternoon on Friday, Bugarikj defeated Weber State’s Connor Kruger 6-3, 7-6 (7-5). Relic picked up a three set win over Ken Dinh with scores of 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Teramo snagged his second win of the day in singles by defeating Theo Mottier from Weber State with scores of 6-1, 6-2.  

Applegate picked up a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Weber State’s Franco Quijano to end the first day of play. 

On Saturday, the Ute duo of Buarikj and Relic started the day by defeating Valentino De Pellegrin and Victor Sklenka from Idaho State 6-4.  In singles action on the second day, Bugarikj defeated Eliot Nobel with 6-4, 6-2 scores. 

Teramo battled in an insane tiebreak to get the win over Keanu Rigby with 7-5, 7-6 (14-12) scores. 

In the final day of competition, Utah duo Teramo and Applegate got a solid doubles win as they downed Theo Mottier and Quijano from Weber State 6-3. 

Bugarikj remained undefeated on the weekend in singles play by picking up a 6-4, 6-1 win over Idaho State’s De Pellegrin. Then, Teramo finished out his undefeated weekend by picking up a 6-3, 6-1 win over Idaho State’s Bouman. 

UP NEXT

Utah will head to Las Vegas for the ITA Regionals Oct. 17-22.
