Utes Completes Day One at USD Intercollegiate Invite


SAN DIEGO – The Utah Women’s tennis team has opened up play at the USD intercollegiate invitational today, Sept. 29. Utah has sent two players, Katya Townsend and Madison Tattini.  

 

“There were a lot of positives and negatives from day one of the USD Intercollegiate Invitational,” remarked associate head coach Melissa Kopinski. “I am looking to capitalize on more opportunities tomorrow when we are back in action.” 

 

The Utes started the day with doubles. In her first match, Townsend played for Utah, and Tattini went head to head with fellow Pac-12 opponent Aya El-Sayed and Antonia Balzert from Colorado Boulder. Utah was defeated, 6-3, by the Buffaloes. 

 

In singles, Tattini took on Andre Velcea of Florida International University. Tattini lost to Velcea, 6-3, 6-1, in the tournament. Meanwhile, Townsend went up against CU player El-Sayed but was defeated 6-2, 6-2, in her match. 

 

Utah is set to play tomorrow at the USD intercollegiate invitational. The Utes will be back in action in singles and doubles.
