Box Score SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men’s tennis took down in-state rival BYU with a clean 4-0 sweep. The Utes quickly secured the doubles point and dominated singles for an early clinch.
As the day began with doubles, the Utah squad quickly dominated their matches and secured the first point in their favor. On court one, Berk Bugarikj and Patrik Trhac downed the Cougar duo 6-3. Soon after, teammates Francisco Bastias and Bruno Caula defeated Dominik Jakovljevic and Redd Owen 6-1.
As the match moved into singles competition, the Utah men showed stellar performances. Utah’s second point came on court one as Capalbo defeated BYU’s Wally Thyne in a 6-3, 6-2 battle. On court five, Trhac downed the opponent 6-2, 6-4, awarding the team with the third point. The match was clinched on court three as Bastias defeated Jakovlejic 6-3, 6-3.
The matches on courts two, four, and six were unfinished. Espin Busleiman led 6-3, 4-2 on court two before the clinch. On court four, Caula led 6-3, 5-4, and on court six Bugarikj led 6-4, 5-2.
UP NEXT
The squad will head to San Diego next weekend for an invitational tournament. Matches will begin Friday, Mar.17 and will conclude on Sunday, Mar.19.
