ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – The Utah men wrapped up the last of their first round of road matches this afternoon with a competition against New Mexico. The Utes fell short for score 4-0.
The match began with doubles where the Utah men had tough-fought matches but ultimately fell in courts one and two to award the Lobos with the first point.
On court three Geronimo Espin Busleiman and Gianluca Citadini led 5-4 but their match was unfinished.
As the match moved to singles the Utes faced tough opponents. Courts three, four, and five dropped matches awarding the Lobos the win.
On court one, Espin Busleiman dropped the first set, won the second, and was ready to begin the tiebreaker but was unable to finish before the match was clinched. On court two J. Blando won the first set 6-3 and was leading 5-4 in the second but also did not finish. Court six saw another unfinished match as M. Blando dropped the first set 7-5 and was leading 4-2 in the second set.
UP NEXT
The Utes will return to the George S. Eccles Tennis Center for three home matches. On Friday, Feb. 16 the squad will face Nevada beginning at 2 p.m. MT. On Saturday, Feb. 17, the team will compete against the Idaho State Bengals with the first serve taking place at 12 p.m. MT.
The home streak will be concluded with a match against Loyola Marymount on Saturday, Mar. 9, at 12 p.m. MT.
