SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men returned to the George S. Eccles Tennis Center after a successful road trip for a match against the Denver Pioneers on Saturday, Feb. 25. After securing the doubles point early on, the squad showed out in singles for a final 5-2 score against Denver.
As doubles matches began, the Utes quickly secured the point. On court one, Berk Bugarikj and Patrik Trhac defeated Pioneers Peter Sallay and Charlie Miller 6-4. Soon after, Francisco Bastias and Bruno Caula downed the Denver tandem 6-4 on court three, awarding the Utes with the first point of the match.
During singles play, the Utah men faced some tough competition. On court five, Trhac granted the Utes their second match point when he took the victory over Anish Sriniketh 6-4, 6-4. On court four, Caula dropped his match 6-4, 6-4, awarding the Pioneers their first point.
Utah’s third point came on court one as Espin Busleiman downed Nicolas Cuesta 6-4, 6-3. The fourth point was delivered on court three. After a stellar 6-0 first set, Bastias dropped the second set 6-1 but drove the tiebreaker set into a 7-6(7-5) win.
Utah’s next point was decided on court two as Capalbo brought his match into three exciting sets. He defeated Pioneer Daniel Sancho Arbizu in a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 match. Lastly, on court six Mateo Julio also had a three-set match, resulting in a 1-6, 6-3, 7-6(7-3) match favoring the Pioneers.
