SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah men’s tennis team wrapped up another home match this afternoon after facing the Loyola Marymount Lions. After dropping the doubles point, the Utah men battled to the last court during singles for final score 4-3 and a two-match winning streak.
During doubles play the Utes played out all three courts for the point. After falling on court one, Geronimo Espin Busleiman and Bruno Krenn defeated the LMU duo 6-3 on court two, leaving the point to be decided on court three. Despite the Utes’ efforts, court three fell 6-3 to the Lions, placing LMU in a 1-0 lead.
Gianluca Citadini awarded Utah with their first point in the match after he downed LMU’s Max Wuelfing in a 6-3, 6-2 match. The Lions took a win on court five, setting the score 2-1 in their favor.
Utah’s second point came after Michael Blando took a decisive victory on court six as he won the first set 6-1, dropped the second 6-2, and nearly swept through the third set 6-1 for the win.
With the Utes and the Lions now tied 2-2, courts one, two, and three continued battling. The tie was broken on court three when Dylan Applegate downed Sebastian Nothhaft in an impressive 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 match, bringing Utah up 3-2.
Utah’s lead was short-lived as the Lions took the victory on court two and tied 3-3 once again, leaving the match to be decided on court one. Krenn dropped the first set 7-6(5) and won the second in another 7-6(5) tiebreak, pushing into a third set to decide both court one and the overall match.
