Uslu named second team All-ACC

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia Tech’s Özlem Uslu was named to the women’s tennis All-ACC second team on Friday, per a league release.

Uslu, who hails from Gebze, Turkey, finished her freshman season ranked No. 51 in the final ITA singles rankings. She advanced to the second round of the 2023 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Singles Championship with a first-round upset over No. 39 Kylie Collins.

Throughout her rookie campaign, Uslu claimed five ranked wins, including a three-set triumph over No. 7 Carole Lee of Georgia Tech. She went 8-5 in ACC play with a 7-4 mark on Court 1.

Following her win over seventh-ranked Lee, Uslu was named the ACC Freshman of the Week on April 4. At the end of the season, she was named the ITA Atlantic Region’s Freshman of the Year.

Uslu is one of three freshmen on the ACC’s three all-conference singles teams and becomes the first Tech women’s tennis player to receive an end-of-season conference honor since Natalie Novotna’s (third team) 2019 season.
