LOS ANGELES – After opening the season with a series of triumphant performances, the USC women’s tennis team continues fall play tomorrow, Oct. 17 at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships in San Diego, Calif. The tournament runs through Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center.
From this, the two singles finalists from each region (26) will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship. Meanwhile, the doubles champion from each region (13) will qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship.
USC’s entire women’s tennis squad will see action in San Diego, with Trojans set to compete in doubles and singles. No. 15 ranked Emma Charney will return to the ITA SW Regional Championships in hopes of defending her 2023 singles title. The junior is 5-3 to start this season, including two wins against ranked opponents.
After recently claiming the singles title at the Women of Troy Invite, freshman Jana Hossam and ITA All-American Round of 16 singles finisher Grace Piper both look to make deep runs this weekend.
Freshmen Simone Kay and Anya Murthy will kick off the action for the Trojans on Thursday, Oct. 17 in the first round of singles qualifying play. Kay will be making her singles debut in the Cardinal and Gold, while Murthy went 2-0 in singles play at the Women of Troy Invite to claim the doubles title with senior Sloane Morra.
