The No. 6 seeded Women of Troy advanced to the Pac-12 Championship Semifinals on Thursday evening, beating the No. 3 seeded Sun Devils 4-1 in Ojai, Calif.
USC, who dropped the doubles point last time the Trojans faced the Sun Devils, redeemed themselves during the quarterfinals, claiming the early point with wins on cours two and three. ASU got a 6-0 win on center court before USC won back-to-back matches. On court two the No. 42 ranked duo of Snow Han and Naomi Cheong beat Gallagher/Morlet 6-4. The doubles point was claimed on court three as Emma Charney and Nathalie Rodilosso downed Fontenel/Argyrokastriti 6-2.
Freshman No. 11 Maddy Sieg kept the momentum going for the Trojans as she beat Guilia Morlet 6-3, 6-1 on center court. Next, McKenna Koenig downed her Sun Devil opponent Argyrokastriti 6-1, 6-4 on court four. ASU’s only point of the day came from Chelsea Fontenel on court two as she beat Snow Han 6-4, 7-5. With the Trojans one point away from a victory, sophomore Sloane Morra stepped up, beating Rachel Hanford 6-2, 6-4 on court six to clinch the match and send the Trojans into the next round.
With the win today, the Women of Troy advance to tomorrow’s semifinal. USC will face No. 2 seed Cal at 3 p.m. at the Weil Tennis Academy.
