The USC women’s tennis team kicked off Pac-12 action with a 6-1 road win over Washington State on Friday, March 3 in Pullman, Wash. With the win, USC improves to 7-2 overall and is now 1-0 in conference play.
USC snagged the doubles point following wins on courts one and three, with the No. 19 ranked duo of Snow Han and Naomi Cheong recording a 6-2 win over WSU’s Nakagawa/Sande on center court. Moments later, Grace Piper and Nathalie Rodilosso defeated Mikhailova/Phout with a 6-4 score line to haul in the doubles point for USC. Action on court two was suspended with Cayetano/Charney tied with WSU’s Tse/Abouelsaad 4-4.
Singles was up next and No. 43 ranked Snow Han struck first, defeating WSU’s Yura Nakagawa 6-2, 6-2 on court two. Naomi Cheong beat Cougar Elyse Tse just moments later on court three, recording a 6-4, 6-3 win. Freshman #124 Emma Charney delivered the clincher as she beat Cougar Fifa Kumhom 6-2, 6-3 on court four to solidify the win for the Women of Troy. Remaining matches were played out with #24 Eryn Cayetano falling on center court and #111 McKenna Koenig and Grace Piper recording wins on courts five and six, respectively.
Next up, the Trojans will travel just a short way over to Seattle, Wash. for a Sunday 11 a.m. dual against Washington.
