USC Women’s Tennis Opens Pac-12 Play Against Washington Schools

After almost three weeks without a match (partially due to weather interference), the USC women’s tennis team returns to action this week as they head north to open Pac-12 play against Washington State and Washington. Friday the Trojans will face WAZU at 12:30. Sunday’s match against Washington will begin at 11 a.m. pacific time. 

The Women of Troy are 6-2 on the season, having most recently defeated UC Santa Barbara 7-0 on Feb. 12. USC’s season stats can be found here.

                                                                                        

RANKINGS

No. 31 USC women’s tennis boasts five Trojans in the national singles rankings with freshman Madison Sieg leading USC at No. 4. Trojan senior Eryn Cayetano locked in the No. 24 spot, while redshirt sophomore Snow Han secured the No. 43 rank. Making her debut in the ITA rankings this week was redshirt sophomore McKenna Koenigwho checked in at No. 111, just a few spots ahead of freshman Emma Charney who took the No. 124 spot.  

The Women of Troy also boast two ranked duos in No. 19 Naomi Cheong and Snow Han (first time in ITA rankings in doubles) and the pair of Maddy Sieg and Eryn Cayetano, who hold the No. 29 rank. 

 

SCOUTING WASHINGTON STATE

 

Washington State is 7-4 this season and is riding a three-game winning streak coming to their dual with the Trojans. Most recently, the Cougars defeated St. Mary’s on Feb. 25 at home. The Cougars do not have any ranked doubles or singles. The dual between USC and WSU will kick-off Pac-12 competition for both teams. Following their match against the Trojans, Washington State will face UCLA on March 5. 

 

SCOUTING WASHINGTON 

 

No. 26 Washington is 7-3 so far this season, with loses to Wisconsin, Texas and Duke. The Huskies last dual ended in a 5-2 victory at Baylor, before their Feb. 25 match against San Diego was cancelled. The Huskies have two players in the national singles rankings this week: No. 93 Jennifer Kerr and No. 100 Hikaru Sato. The Huskies will take on the Trojans following their March 3 match against UCLA.
